We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming KIWi Connect “Potentials for Academic Cooperation between Germany and Morocco”, which will take place virtually on Wednesday, 2 December 2026 | 10:00 am–1:00 pm (German time, UTC+1) | 9:00 am–12:00 pm (Moroccan time, UTC+0)
Event format
The moderated matchmaking event brings together representatives of higher education institutions from Germany and Morocco who are interested in establishing new contacts and exchanging ideas on possible collaborations in three key research areas:
(1) renewable energy
(2) engineering
(3) food security and agriculture
The online event, hosted by DAAD Centre for International Academic Cooperation (KIWi) in collaboration with the DAAD Regional Office in Tunis and the DAAD Lectureship in Morocco, will be held through the MS Teams platform. In the first part, this event will feature a plenary session detailing the higher education landscapes in both countries and funding opportunities available. In the second part, there will be matchmaking sessions allowing participants to explore the potential for collaboration in smaller, thematically focused breakout sessions.
During the breakout sessions, university representatives will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and present their institutions, departments, and project proposals through short pitches. Each presentation will be supported by a poster that is prepared in advance and shared with all participants.
Target audience
University representatives from universities in Germany and Morocco, as well as representatives of research institutions (including directors, researchers, research managers, international offices, research departments, and transfer offices).

Background
In this Matchmaking event, the DAAD Centre for International Academic Cooperation (KIWi) focuses on German-Moroccan academic cooperation. Universities in both countries already collaborate successfully in more than 80 partnerships across a broad range of disciplines and research topics. This collaboration is expected to grow further, both in view of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030 and as part of wider efforts to diversify research partnerships beyond established partner countries. Cooperation in areas such as curriculum development, joint teaching and research, and knowledge transfer creates significant added value for institutions in both countries, and the exchange of international and intercultural perspectives enriches the work of all institutions involved.
Key discussion topics
To facilitate the initial exchange and help participants get to know one another, the following questions, among others, can be discussed:
• What kind of exchange and collaboration are partners looking for?
• Which opportunities does the respective research area (renewable energy, engineering, or food security and agriculture) offer for German-Moroccan academic collaborations?
• How can local challenges in the respective field be addressed in joint collaborations?
• Which experiences have partners gained in previous international collaborations?
